Marketing Communications/Staff Bios
David Hoover has been on the staff of Marketing Communications since 1981, when he joined the office (which was, at that time, called University Publications) as a designer/production manager. Within a year of arriving, David moved into management of the office, and has taken on progressively broader responsibilities since that time. He now oversees the publications area in addition to promotional video and university web coordination responsibilities.
David came to Ohio State from his alma mater, Virginia Commonwealth University, where he served as the first in-house graphic designer in their Publications office. Before that, he was a designer in a small Richmond, Virginia design studio.
David serves on the Board of Directors of the Council for Advancement
and Support of Education District Five. He has consulted with
a variety of Publications offices, including those at Rutgers,
Toledo, Michigan, Florida International, and SUNY Buffalo.
Jeanine Crossmon works as a business manager in University Marketing Communications. Among her many responsibilities are the coordination of budget and fiscal responsibilities for four units (publications, new media, video and photography services) within the department. She has been employed at The Ohio State University for 24 years. Previously she worked in the offices of Cancer Control and the Vice President for Health Services. She is a graduate of Columbus Business University and resides in Westerville with her husband and daughter.
Carol Miller has been employed by Ohio State since 1978. Some of her responsibilities include updating the Faculty/Staff Directory, sending out quarterly news releases to media outlets in all Ohio counties listing Ohio State graduates and honor roll students, and compiling information for the calendar section of onCampus, OSU’s faculty/staff newspaper. At the university she previously worked for University Development, the College of Pharmacy, and Academic Affairs. Carol graduated from Columbus Business University and lives in Westerville with her husband and son. She also has two adult daughters.
New Media
Ted Hattemer has been with University Marketing Communications since January 1999. Prior to that Ted served as Web Editor for the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CFAES). He received his Bachelor of Arts with a major in English from The Ohio State University in 1991. Ted's main responsibilities as Director of New Media include being the on-site advocate for Ohio State Web visitors and their interests, liaison to other Web developers within the university, and advocate for Ohio State's interests in recruitment, matriculation, and retention of quality students, faculty, and staff. In addition Ted serves on various committees, directing the technology path for Ohio State.
Jim Burgoon has been a designer with University Marketing Communications since 1999.
Kristen Convery has been with University Marketing Communications since 2005. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Ohio State in 2001, and has written for The Dayton Daily News, The Other Paper and Columbus Monthly.
Ellen Hoover has been a designer with University Marketing Communications since 1986. Prior to that, she was a designer at the Ohio Arts Council and Dialogue Magazine. She graduated from Ohio State with a B.S. in Industrial Design.

Photography
Kevin Fitzsimons is a photographer and manager of the Photo Services section of University Relations. Kevin has been a University photographer for nearly 18 years and has extensive experience in news, portrait, publications and event photography. His duties include shooting assignments for University Relations and Wexner Center for the Arts, managing the Photo Services staff and budget, and inventory control. He is currently serving a two-year term as a member of the University Staff Advisory Committee.
Photographer Jo McCulty produces documentary, portraiture, illustration, feature, news and landscape photography for a variety of university periodicals and publications. Clients include admissions and college recruitment brochures, posters and postcards; Frontiers, the cancer hospital magazine; onCampus, the faculty and staff newspaper. She has been recognized with seven CASE (Council for Advancement and Support of Education) awards, two of which were silver awards in the Photographer of the Year category for 1992 and 1996. Jo also received Ohio State's Distinguished Staff Award in 1998. A member of the University Relations staff since 1984, Jo holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Ohio State.
Donna Fahner is the office manager for Photo Services. Her major responsibilities include organizing the work schedules for the two staff photographers, the free-lance photographers, and the black and white lab technician; advising clients on technical aspects of their photography needs; maintaining photo, negative and transparency files; and basic bookeeping and record management. Prior to joining the University family in 1998 in this position, Donna worked in photo retail management for several employers in the Columbus area for approximately 20 years.
Publications
Lynn Nickell joined the University Marketing Communications staff in 1982 as a production manager/designer. She has held various positions in the office and is currently director of publications. Lynn directs print media in the office, working closely with university clients, designers, writers, and printers. Besides overseeing more than 600 print jobs per year, she also coordinates the production of the faculty/staff and student phone directories and the campus map. Lynn has also served on several university committees related to the visual identity guidelines.
After graduating from Bowling Green State University with a BFA in design, Lynn worked for Youngstown State University, a local advertising agency, and a corporate marketing office.
Dina Amin joined University Marketing Communication in January 2006 as a full-time employee. Prior to that, she was freelancing for the office for almost three years. Originally from Egypt, she earned her BFA from Columbus College of Art and Design.
She is designer for onCampus, the faculty staff newspaper, but also works with a variety of clients such as Fisher College of Business, the Kirwan Institute, and the Blackwell.
Deborah Athy Guinan is an editor with University Marketing Communications (UMC). Her primary responsibility is to assist in the development of undergraduate recruitment materials, working closely with Undergraduate Admissions, the University Honors & Scholar Center, and the Office of Minority Affairs. Debbie worked as an associate editor with UMC since September 1996, working primarily with Fisher College of Business, Orientation, and Continuing Education. She received a B.A. in Journalism, an M.A. in English, and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Ohio State. Prior to working at the university, Debbie worked as an associate editor in the Department of Communications at the Ohio State Medical Association.
Pamela Hill joined the UMC staff as an editor in April 1999. Her primary clients are Housing and Residence Education and the Moritz College of Law. Before joining UMC, Pam held two other positions at Ohio State-first, as an academic advisor in University College and then as an information associate with Library Development. She earned her M.A. in English from Marshall University in 1989. Aside from her position with UMC, Pam is a freelance writer for Poetry for Students (Gale Group) and for Roth Publishing, Inc., an online poetry reference site. She has had poems published in over 100 journals and has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize three times. Her first full-length collection, In Praise of Motels, was published in 1999.
Linda Lutz joined University Marketing Communications as a senior graphic designer in July 2000. Her primary account is the Fisher College of Business. Linda came to UMC from UnitedHealthcare, where she was the senior graphic designer for the central region. She attended Ohio State and earned her BFA in advertising/design from the Columbus College of Art and Design.
Ed Maceyko arrived at Marketing Communications via Ohio State College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences. Before his five-year stint in the college, he was a publications designer at the Marketing Education Resource Center for seven years. He received his B.S. in Product Design from Ohio State in 1990. Ed's primary account is Housing and Residence Education.
Tony Meuser has been a Graphic Designer with University Marketing Communications since June 1996. He came to Ohio State from Rickabaugh Graphics, a prominent local design studio where he helped service a diverse range of clients as an Art Director/Designer. Prior to that, he was a staff artist at SBC, a local full-service advertising agency. He began his design training studying Architecture at the University of Cincinnati, then transferred into the Visual Communications program at Bowling Green State University, from which he earned his bachelor's degree.
At Ohio State, Tony works on a wide variety of client projects, including the Office of Outreach and Engagement, the Office of Human Resources, the College of Humanities, and the Fawcett Center. When his eyes aren't locked on his Macintosh computer screen, Tony enjoys tennis, volleyball, swimming, old cars, and working on his house.
Mary Meyers has been a Graphic Designer with University Marketing Communications since March 1996. Graduating in 1976 with a B.A. in Graphic Design from the University of Akron, she served as staff illustrator, production artist and art director for five different advertising agencies in the Akron/Cleveland/Columbus area, a Columbus printing company, and served as Assistant Director of Print Communications for the University of Akron. Mary works with a variety of clients at the university including University Development, Mathematical and Physical Sciences, Athletics, the Fisher College of Business, Special Events, and Human Resources. She also is designer for the onCampus faculty staff newspaper and works closely with the newspaper advertising clients. Her interests also encompass illustration and photo manipulation.
